CORVETTE ZR-1: AMERICA’S FIRST MAINSTREAM SUPERCAR

The C4 Corvette ZR-1 from 1990-1995 paved the way for the 2009 and 2017 ZR1, and it's still the only 'Vette to have a DOHC V8.
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is back, and with 755 mind-blowing horsepower we suspect it will earn a place among the elite supercars of the world. Why, then, are we feeling just a bit let down? To understand, we turn to automotive cutaway artist and self-professed Corvette enthusiast David Kimble for a very special look at the new ZR1’s grandfather, the often-overlooked 1990 Corvette ZR-1.

Somehow the significance of this car – never mind its performance – has become somewhat lost in the halls of automotive history. This is especially true for gearheads under the age of 30, who associate the ZR1 moniker with the supercharged model from 2009, and to a degree, those over age 60 who remember the original ZR1 from 1970. In between came this car, the 1990-1995 ZR-1 (with a hyphen), and anyone who knows Corvette history will instantly tell you what makes this car so special.

Join us now for a close look at the incredible detail Kimble captures in this very special cutaway, as we talk about the ZR-1’s unique features and why it could well be the most significant Corvette of them all.
